Research


The Australian Centre for Indigenous History (ACIH) is an initiative of the History Program within the Research School of Social Sciences at the Australian National University. Through the promotion of high quality research into the history of Indigenous peoples, the Centre aims to:

    • raise the profile of the study of indigenous history through internationally recognised scholarship
    • establish projects of national significance and scope
    • support and encourage community history links
    • increase diversity and breadth in the study of indigenous history
    • promote trans-national scope, links and collaborations
    • promote ethical scholarship
    • encourage and support innovative historical approaches
    • work closely with the National Museum of Australia, Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies and peak indigenous and historical bodies
    • encourage opportunities and training for indigenous scholars in the field
